JUNALUSKA SCENIC DRIVE: Take the scenic drive from Downtown Boone through the historic 'town' of Junaluska to Howard's Knob Park for a fantastic aerial view of downtown Boone. Howards Knob County Park is located north of King Street and Mast Store on the highest knoll overlooking the Town of Boone. It offers picnic tables, covered and open, trails and overlooks. FREE ADMISSION. Open May 1 - October 20, Dawn to Dusk. Elevation: 4,406 feet

From 421 (E. King St.) turn north onto Grand Blvd and travel 0.2 miles, turn left on Bear Trail (one way) and drive another 0.2 miles, then turn left on Eastview Dr./E. Junaluska Rd. Follow the steep winding road for 0.85 miles. Turn right onto Howard's Knob Road. Drive 1/2 mile to the park entrance. Take a short walk from the parking area to the overlook.
